## Description

100KTREES is a brand that is dedicated to making cities a better and healthier place to live by encouraging tree planting. They provide tools and evidence-based services to decision makers within city authorities to encourage the planting of more trees. The brand is part of the HORIZON Europe project and works with ten organizations from seven different EU countries. Their aim is to optimize the impact of tree planting and improve urban environments.

Urban trees have numerous benefits, including improvements in air quality, carbon sequestration, reduction of heat islands, and urban biodiversity. 100KTREES develops mapping and modeling tools using data from the Copernicus EU space program and in-situ data to optimize tree planting and monitor tree health. They assign monetary value to key attributes of a tree and develop business cases for tree planting in partner cities, Sofia (Bulgaria) and Copenhagen (Denmark). The project is supported by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme.

The project results will be openly available as open data and open-source software. Interested stakeholders can also participate in citizen engagement events and workshops organized by the project.
