## Description

Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) is a collaborative initiative spearheaded by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division and Seattle Public Utilities, aimed at harnessing nature to effectively manage stormwater in urban settings, notably in Seattle. This innovative approach addresses the challenge of runoff pollution by mimicking natural processes, utilizing elements such as plants, trees, and engineered infrastructures to capture, slow, and treat rainwater before it contaminates local waterways.

The RainWise program, part of GSI, offers rebates to eligible property owners for installing rain gardens and cisterns, providing a sustainable means to manage rainwater on their properties. The partnership also engages in large-scale public projects to tackle runoff from roads and sidewalks, enhancing community landscapes.

With a goal of processing 700 million gallons of runoff annually—equivalent to over a thousand Olympic-sized swimming pools—GSI exemplifies a commitment to eco-friendly solutions that protect human and aquatic health. Through education and community collaboration, GSI sets a precedent for sustainable urban development.
