About
Description
826CHI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills and helping teachers inspire their students to write. With the belief that great leaps in learning can happen with individualized attention, 826CHI offers student-centered, inquiry-driven methods combined with an emphasis on publishing. This approach equips students with the tools they need to write their own paths forward. The organization bridges the gap between writing and activism, using literacy as a powerful tool for advocacy, self-expression, and world-building. Through authentic community building with educators, partners, volunteers, and guest authors and artists, 826CHI empowers students to become active leaders and organizers in their communities. They offer programs that connect students with caring volunteers throughout the school day, after school, on weekends, and in the summer. 826CHI is committed to inclusion and serves students and communities most impacted by systemic disinvestment in high-quality literacy and arts education. They provide young people with practical skills and a platform for self-expression, fostering engagement with literary arts and promoting strong relationship building. With a focus on justice and equity, 826CHI is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space for all students, regardless of background or ability.
