Action for Healthy Communities Society of Alberta is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening community groups and increasing public participation in solving health issues. Having emerged in the mid-1990s, their mission is to empower residents to voice their views and concerns about wellness and healthcare reform. Originally known as the Edmonton Health Care Citizenship Society (EHCS), they were officially incorporated in 1995 and became a charitable organization in 1999.


Action for Healthy Communities offers a wide range of programs and supports to help individuals and communities thrive. Their initiatives include community capacity building, settlement and integration services, adult literacy and skills development, employment supports, entrepreneurship programs, newcomer youth empowerment, and mental health support. They also promote healthy and active lifestyles through programs for children and youth, such as P.
