## Description

The American Academy of Religion, Western Region (AAR/WR) is a regional scholarly organization that brings together scholars, practitioners, educators, and community leaders interested in religion and related fields. Its work centers on fostering dialogue across religious traditions, academic disciplines, and generations, encouraging thoughtful engagement with difference and collaboration on shared concerns.

AAR/WR’s annual conference is a key part of its activities, providing a forum for research presentations and discussion. Its 2027 meeting, co-hosted by the Graduate Theological Union and Pacific School of Religion, focuses on moving beyond boundaries and silos toward interconnection. The organization also supports members through publications, virtual conferences, graduate student and professional development, and opportunities to participate in caucuses, including its Queer Caucus and Women’s Caucus. Additional programs include regional development and conference travel grants, paper awards, and open positions. Through its meetings, resources, and professional opportunities, AAR/WR serves a community working to deepen understanding of religion and strengthen connections among scholars and communities across the Western region.
