## Description

AAST is the premier allied health membership association dedicated to improving the quality of sleep and wakefulness for all individuals. With over 2,700 members, AAST is committed to promoting and advancing the sleep technologist profession. Sleep technologists play a vital role in sleep centers, possessing a deep understanding of diagnostic and therapeutic tools used in sleep medicine. Credentialed by the American Board of Sleep Medicine or the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, they assist in evaluating and providing follow-up care for patients with sleep disorders. Established in 1978, AAST provides education, resources, and advocacy to lead sleep-care professionals in providing the highest quality of care for patients. Their mission is to empower sleep-care professionals to be the most knowledgeable in the field, while their vision is to set the standard for professional excellence in sleep healthcare. AAST values integrity, professionalism, accountability, and respecting individuals with compassion and fairness. They actively promote diversity and inclusion and stand against racism and social injustice. AAST also collaborates with Start School Later to increase public awareness about the relationship between sleep and school hours. Since its formation, AAST has grown into a leading national membership organization for sleep technologists, with a rich history of developing and advancing the profession. They have played a pivotal role in establishing standards, education, and training for polysomnography, as well as promoting licensure for sleep technologists in various states. AAST continues to make significant contributions to the field of sleep healthcare by ensuring the highest quality of care for patients and supporting the professional growth of sleep technologists.
