## Description

The American Boxing Association (ABA) is a United States professional boxing organization that presents itself as an official national sanctioning body. It promotes the American Boxing Association Championship belt as a national title for professional fighters, with title opportunities across recognized weight classes. A distinctive feature of its championship program is that the ABA says it sanctions title fights only between American citizens who meet its standards and have a qualifying boxing record.

The ABA supports the sport through fighter rankings, championship recognition, and resources for athletes, promoters, and boxing stakeholders. Its website provides rankings across men’s divisions, including heavyweight, cruiserweight, middleweight, welterweight, and other weight classes. It also publishes organizational information such as regional structures, rules, bylaws, sanction fees, compliance guidance, and ratings criteria. Additional offerings include membership and newsletter access, boxing news, videos, live streams, and educational material on boxing history and terminology. Founded by Dean Smith, the ABA describes its mission as celebrating American fighters and the nation’s boxing heritage while maintaining integrity and supporting the growth and recognition of professional athletes.
