## Description

Ability Workshop Society is a Calgary-based nonprofit that designs and builds custom assistive devices for people with disabilities. Serving Calgary and communities across Southern Alberta, the organization aims to promote independent living, inclusion, healthy recreation, and self-sufficiency. Its volunteer-powered approach creates one-of-a-kind solutions tailored to each person’s needs, helping people live, work, and play more independently.

Examples of its devices include wheelchair trays, cup and remote holders, sliding fridge shelves, walker brakes, pool supports, activity boards, and adaptive equipment for recreation. The organization also provides equipment repair and sales, sensory and activity boards, and equipment loans. Its solutions can support everyday tasks, safe transfers, mobility, learning, sport, and inclusive play.

People can request assistance, volunteer their engineering, trades, or building skills, or donate toward materials, tools, and devices. Ability Workshop reports having built more than 500 devices over 25 years, with its work powered entirely by volunteers. The society operates by appointment in Calgary and focuses on practical, personalized equipment that helps people participate more fully in daily life and their communities.
