## Description

ABIO Lodi is a volunteer-led nonprofit association dedicated to supporting children and adolescents during hospital stays and assisting their families. Founded in 1994, it was the fifth ABIO association established in Italy and is part of Fondazione ABIO Italia ETS. The association is registered with the Lombardy regional register, and its volunteers serve Monday through Saturday in the pediatric department, pediatric outpatient clinics, and pediatric emergency department at Lodi’s Ospedale Maggiore.

ABIO Lodi aims to make hospitalization less distressing for young patients through activities that encourage play and enjoyment, as well as attentive listening and support for parents. Its work is guided by the Charter of the Rights of Children and Adolescents in Hospital, which highlights the importance of child-friendly surroundings, play during hospitalization, parental presence, appropriate care, and treatment in pediatric wards. The charter was developed by Fondazione ABIO Italia with the Italian Society of Pediatrics, drawing on international children’s rights principles and ABIO’s volunteering experience.
