Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation (ABWF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Red Lodge, Montana. We are dedicated to the stewardship and preservation of the magnificent Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and its surrounding communities. Spanning nearly 1 million acres, the A-B Wilderness is a pristine and breathtaking landscape that we strive to protect.

At ABWF, we believe in the power of volunteer engagement, education, and community collaboration to achieve our mission. Our staff, board, and partners are deeply rooted in the A-B region, while our members, volunteers, and supporters come from around the world. We work closely with the Custer Gallatin National Forest under a partnership agreement, undertaking crucial activities such as trail maintenance, site restoration, and invasive weed control.

We also monitor visitor use and ecological impacts to ensure the preservation of this remarkable wilderness. Additionally, we offer a range of programs and activities, including educational hikes and workshops, wilderness internships, and a winter webinar series. These initiatives are designed to foster appreciation for all wildlands and promote the understanding of wilderness values, characteristics, critical issues, and ecology.
