## Description

ACE-Uganda, the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Data Intensive Sciences, is a research and training center focused on improving health outcomes through computational science. Based in Uganda, it applies bioinformatics, high-performance computing, visualization, and data science to health challenges across Africa. Its research spans antimicrobial resistance, human genomics, cancer, and data science, using computational tools to analyze complex biological data and support scientific discovery.

The center builds regional expertise through MSc and PhD programs, internships, short courses, workshops, and collaborative research opportunities. It also provides advanced computing infrastructure, including a 56-node high-performance computing cluster, alongside a virtual reality laboratory used for visualization, health education, and emergency-response training. ACE-Uganda works with regional and international partners, including Google DeepMind, on research, AI and machine learning, and capacity building. Its initiatives include IDM-Africa, a five-year program training researchers in mathematical modelling for epidemic preparedness and response. With more than 150 students trained, over 20 active collaborative research projects, and more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, the center supports scientific capacity and health-focused innovation.
