## Description

**Nantucket Residents FOR Whales (ACK4WHALES)** is a dedicated grassroots organization formed by community members of Nantucket Island, deeply concerned about the ecological impacts of offshore wind development along the island's south shores. With plans for 2,400 massive turbines, which will dwarf iconic Boston structures, the group emphasizes the need for transparency and public involvement in the permitting process, which has often remained hidden. Originally known as ACK Rats, the organization seeks scientifically backed answers about the cumulative effects these projects may have on the fragile marine ecosystem, particularly the endangered North Atlantic right whale. A registered 501(c)(3) charity since 2020, ACK4WHALES actively engages in public outreach and education, advocating for environmental protection and responsible energy development. The organization fosters a community of passionate individuals committed to preserving Nantucket’s unique maritime heritage and ensuring that potential industrial projects are thoroughly evaluated before proceeding. Join ACK4WHALES in their mission to protect marine life and promote a sustainable future for the island.
