Description
The ACLU of Vermont, an affiliate of the national ACLU, is dedicated to defending and advancing civil liberties for all individuals. Integrating various approaches such as litigation, policy advocacy, organizing, public education, and strategic communications, the ACLU of Vermont works tirelessly to uphold a wide range of constitutionally protected rights and freedoms. Since its establishment in 1967, the ACLU of Vermont, based in Montpelier, has focused on numerous issues impacting Vermonters' constitutional rights.
These include racial justice, criminal justice reform, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, disability rights, voting rights, immigrants' rights, freedom of speech, religious liberty, reproductive freedom, privacy, and more. Through their efforts, the ACLU of Vermont aims to achieve justice and equality for all individuals, particularly those historically marginalized and denied the full protections of the law. Joining forces with the ACLU's presence in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.
C., they strive to ensure equal protection under the law regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or national origin. As a nonprofit organization, the ACLU of Vermont operates under two entities. The ACLU of Vermont is a 501(c)(4) supporting legislative lobbying, while the ACLU Foundation of Vermont is a 501(c)(3) supporting litigation and public education efforts.
