Active Southern West Virginia is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the residents of southern West Virginia. With a focus on combating heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, they work with public and private partners to create a model community of wellness and active living. The organization was launched by the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority as a region-wide initiative.

Active Southern West Virginia offers a range of programs and services led by trained volunteers from within the communities they serve. Their Community Captains program, for example, trains individuals to become peer-to-peer health promoters, providing support and interventions to prevent and manage chronic diseases. They also offer programs such as Kids Run Clubs, Diabetes Prevention Program, Walk With Ease, and 21CCLC Recognized Clubs.

By prioritizing physical activity and wellness, Active Southern West Virginia aims to attract new businesses, tourism, and jobs to the region, while fostering a proud culture of health and well-being. They are committed to creating a healthier and more active community for all residents of southern West Virginia
