They have played a crucial role in developing the intensive system and shrimp industry in Guatemala. Acuamaya has achieved several key milestones throughout their journey. They established the Mayasal Farm in 1983, one of the first shrimp aquaculture operations in Guatemala and Central America. In 1984, they made their first shrimp exports. The company further expanded its operations by developing a modern processing plant in 1990 and establishing the La Candelaria Shrimp Hatchery in 1998 to support the growth of the industry in Guatemala. In 2002, Acuamaya developed the first intensive systems at the Mayasal farm, leading to the wider adoption and differentiation of Guatemala's aquaculture model. The company continued to expand its production capacity with the addition of Finca Saquija in 2010 and Finca La Danta in 2013, increasing their total pond area. Acuamaya's commitment to social and environmental responsibility earned them the ASC Certification for three of their farms in 2020. To promote education about Guatemalan shrimp locally and internationally, Acuamaya launched the Tasty Shrimp Club platform in 2019. Their shrimp is known for being responsible, delicious, and safe.
