About
Description
Adaptive Design Association Inc. Alongside this, they have provided numerous hands-on classes, internships, and other opportunities to engage the community in their workshop. Their mission is to advance healthcare, education, and social well-being by involving everyone, from beginners to experts, in building custom adaptations and discovering untapped potential.
They truly believe in nurturing communities that thrive with diversity. The vision of Adaptive Design Association is to see adaptive design centers operational in communities, schools, and organizations worldwide. They strive for a future where all individuals with disabilities are fully educated, employed, and valued in every family, society, and country.
Their history is one of innovation and impact. Founder and Director Emeritus, Alex Truesdell, began creating adaptive solutions at Perkins School for the Blind. Using affordable materials such as cardboard and rolled towels, she developed highly customized and successful solutions.
In 2015, Alex was recognized with a MacArthur Fellowship for her groundbreaking work. Under the leadership of Executive Director Jennifer Hercman, Adaptive Design Association has expanded its programmatic scope. They now focus on strengthening adaptive solutions for individuals with physical disabilities, producing three-dimensional communication learning cards for the visually impaired, and launching an innovative work program for students with Autism in the New York Public School system.
Adaptive Design Association's commitment to their mission and their innovative approach to solving critical problems has garnered recognition and support from organizations such as The MacArthur Foundation, The New York Community Trust, and Ford Foundation. Join the Adaptive Design Association in their mission to create a more inclusive and accessible world by donating, volunteering, or participating in their corporate events.
