## Description

AFC Dunărea Călărași is a Romanian football club founded in 1962 as Celuloza Călărași. Based in the city of Călărași, the team is known by its yellow-and-blue colors and has competed under several names, including Oțelul Călărași and Sportul Călărași, before adopting the Dunărea name in 1979. The club’s history reflects a gradual rise through Romania’s football divisions, with multiple third-tier championships and promotions. Its early milestones included reaching the second division in 1973 and later earning promotion to Liga I for the first time, a landmark for both the club and the city. Dunărea plays at Stadionul Ion Comșa, its long-time home ground, which was modernized to meet top-flight licensing requirements. The stadium features a natural-grass pitch and hosted the club’s first Liga I home fixture in 2018. The club’s activities center on professional football, league competition, and representing Călărași in Romanian sport. Its achievements have helped build a lasting connection with local supporters and the city’s football heritage.
