## Description

The African Cancer Registry Network (AFCRN) is a regional network dedicated to strengthening cancer surveillance and registration across sub-Saharan Africa. Formally inaugurated in 2012, it grew from earlier cancer registry initiatives and works with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) through the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development. AFCRN provides a coordinating centre and secretariat for its network, helping countries address challenges in establishing and improving cancer registries. Its support includes technical and scientific guidance, tailored training in population-based cancer registration and data use, and advocacy for cancer registration. The network also helps develop associations and collaborations among registries, coordinates international research projects, and shares findings. Its website offers resources such as training courses, procedural guidance, data collection materials, publications, and information on legal frameworks for population-based registries. AFCRN aims to improve the effectiveness of cancer surveillance, strengthen health systems, and support research that identifies priorities for cancer control. Its work is supported financially through The Challenge Fund, a UK registered charity.
