Description
Africa CDC, short for Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, is an autonomous health agency of the African Union. Established to support public health initiatives of member states, Africa CDC aims to strengthen the capacity of their public health institutions to detect, prevent, control, and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats. This continental agency provides coordinated and integrated solutions to the inadequacies in public health infrastructure, human resource capacity, disease surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, and preparedness and response to health emergencies and disasters.
Guided by principles such as leadership and transparency, Africa CDC serves as a platform for member states to exchange knowledge and lessons from public health interventions. Their objectives include establishing early warning and response surveillance platforms, filling gaps in capabilities required for compliance with international health regulations, and promoting partnership and collaboration among member states to address emerging and endemic diseases and public health emergencies. Africa CDC is committed to strengthening Africa's public health institutions and partnerships to detect and respond effectively to disease threats and outbreaks
