## Description

Africartoons is a dynamic platform dedicated to advancing freedom of expression in Africa through the art of editorial cartoons. Launched in 2008 on Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday, it began as a tribute to his political legacy, showcasing the talents of South Africa's leading cartoonists. Since its relaunch in 2009, Africartoons has grown into the most comprehensive online repository of contemporary cartoons, featuring daily updates from top South African artists as well as contributions from across the African continent.

The site serves not only as a showcase for political and social commentary but also includes profiles of cartoonists, reviews of their published works, and related news. Africartoons has actively engaged in promoting the rights of cartoonists, standing against censorship and advocating for media freedom through various events such as book launches, exhibitions, and discussions. With a commitment to collaboration and sustainability, Africartoons continues to expand its influence, fostering a vibrant community of cartoonists committed to social justice and democracy.
