About

Description

Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) is a nonprofit organization based in Greenwich, NY, dedicated to protecting and conserving working farms and forests in Washington and Rensselaer counties. With a mission to safeguard the community's farmland and forests, ASA connects people to the land and promotes a vibrant future for agriculture and forestry in the region. Since its establishment in 1990, ASA has successfully preserved over 30,200 acres on 165 properties in the Upper Hudson River Valley.

ASA is one of the few land trusts in New York State solely focused on conserving working farms and forests. Through conservation agreements (easements), the organization ensures that conserved land can never be used for housing or commercial development, safeguarding it for future generations. ASA offers various options for landowners interested in permanently protecting their land, including government funding and donation of development rights.

Once the land is conserved, ASA takes on the responsibility of stewardship, ensuring that conservation goals are maintained through annual visits and meetings with landowners. In addition to land conservation efforts, ASA actively engages local communities through events, programs, workshops, hikes, and farm visits. Their prominent art show, Landscapes for Landsake, celebrates the beauty and significance of farmland and working forests.

ASA also supports beginning farmers and those looking to transfer their land through programs like the Hudson Valley Farmlink Network and Farmland for a New Generation New York. ASA is accredited by the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission and adheres to established standards and practices. Stay connected with ASA through their e-newsletter and social media channels for updates and upcoming events
