## Description

Ahnenspuren is a genealogy portal designed to help amateur family historians research their ancestors, with a particular focus on East Prussia. It brings together historical materials and regional resources that can help users investigate where their forebears lived, what they did, and how communities developed. The collection includes place-name registers, historical directories and address books, church and civil-registration references, local records, maps, literature, and information on schools, churches, military affairs, administration, and settlement. Resources cover numerous East Prussian districts and towns, with materials dating from different periods, including records from before 1945.

The portal aims to support more coordinated, reliable research through a network of experts and experienced amateur researchers. Members can take part in research projects, create pages, and exchange information with others. Its editing system is intended to make contributing easier than using conventional wiki software. The site continues to grow, and membership carries a modest annual fee to help cover its maintenance and administration.
