## Description

The American Irish Historical Society (AIHS), founded in 1897 in Boston, is a pivotal institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Irish and Irish-American history and culture. Located at 991 Fifth Avenue in New York City, the Society boasts an extensive collection of over 10,000 volumes, including significant historical texts and rare manuscripts. AIHS serves as a vibrant cultural hub, offering free public events, lectures, and performances that celebrate Irish heritage. It extends access to its archives and library for researchers, writers, and scholars, fostering a deep exploration of Irish-American narratives.

The Society is committed to values of accessibility, authenticity, curiosity, and inclusivity, ensuring that all visitors can engage with its resources and programming. By striving to uphold the legacies of its notable founders and members, such as Theodore Roosevelt and George M. Cohan, AIHS continues to impact contemporary discussions about identity and culture within the broader context of the transatlantic Irish experience. Through its efforts, the Society aims to educate and inspire future generations about the contributions of the Irish in America.
