## Description

Aikido of Central New York is a traditional Japanese martial arts dojo serving the Syracuse community since 1972. It offers adult and youth aikido instruction in a respectful, welcoming, noncompetitive setting, emphasizing lifelong practice rather than fighting or competition. Classes are open to beginners and experienced martial artists, with no prior experience required and training suited to a range of ages and fitness levels.

Adult classes develop practical self-protection, balance, coordination, focus, confidence, and resilience under stress. The youth program supports listening, emotional regulation, cooperation, respect, and body awareness, providing a structured option for children who may not thrive in competitive sports. Across its programs, the dojo teaches students to stay centered under pressure, move confidently, and redirect force without relying on strength.

Instruction is led by Jonathan Reid, a sixth dan and Shihan recognized by Aikido Hombu Dojo in Japan. His teaching connects traditional aikido lineage with everyday life.
