## Description

Stichting Iwa-ryu Aikido offers instruction in traditional Japanese aikido through dojos in Spijkenisse and Hellevoetsluis. Developed by Morihei Ueshiba from older samurai traditions, aikido uses movement, timing and an attacker’s force to support physical and mental development. The practice is open to people of different ages and experience levels, with separate classes for adults and young people.

Adult training focuses on moving freely, maintaining balance and becoming more aware of one’s surroundings. Students practise techniques including holds and throws, and may train with traditional weapons such as the wooden sword (bokken), knife (tanto) and staff (jo). Youth classes help children practise falling and getting back up while developing confidence, resilience, concentration and calm. The club also introduces values associated with Japanese culture, including respect and discipline.

Stichting Iwa-ryu Aikido shares news about training, exams and events, and invites newcomers to try a class. Prospective students can request a trial lesson through the website or contact the club by phone or social media.
