## Description

AirToTree is a nature-based carbon removal initiative connecting European land stewards with environmental markets. Established to address the lack of funding and recognition for local conservation work, it combines community knowledge with technology and market access to support long-term ecological restoration. Its work includes identifying suitable land with municipalities, cooperatives, and landowners; providing stewards with guidance and ecological support; monitoring outcomes; and connecting projects with corporate and institutional buyers seeking credible climate contributions.

AirToTree’s inaugural project is the Szent Tamás community forest in Romania’s Carpathians, where it aims to protect 220 hectares. The initiative uses satellite data, LiDAR, AI-based biomass modelling, and field surveys to produce transparent, auditable evidence of carbon removal, with processes designed to align with the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework. Beyond carbon removal, AirToTree explores opportunities linked to biodiversity markets and broader ecosystem restoration. Its approach prioritises local stewardship, regulatory alignment, rigorous verification, and infrastructure that can support multiple projects over time.
