## Description

Alain Mathiot is a French contemporary painter whose practice has extended from 1961 to the present. Born in 1938, he received the Prix Fénéon in 1961 and has exhibited in Paris, New York, and elsewhere. Working from his studio in Hugier, Haute-Saône, Mathiot creates original paintings and works on paper featuring animals, human figures, and landscapes distilled to their essential forms. His direct compositions emphasize color, texture, and silhouette, giving familiar subjects a striking, elemental presence.

The website presents a gallery of more than 290 works across three collections. Paintings include oils on canvas, larger formats, totemic figures, and painted collages. Drawings feature oils and felt-tip media on paper, including recent series and intimate formats. A smaller selection of works uses materials such as wood, metal, and found objects. Recent examples include paintings of donkeys and a bicycle. Each original is a unique, signed work, and selected pieces are available to acquire directly from the artist. Visitors can also explore Mathiot’s biography, exhibition history, and contact information.
