Alp is a progressive organization that is dedicated to community organizing and social justice. As a center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color in the New York City area, Alp focuses on mobilization, education, and capacity-building to promote community wellness and progressive social and economic justice. They strive to reflect, represent, and serve the diverse communities they work with, and are committed to struggling across differences to create a more inclusive society.
The Audre Lorde Project, founded in 1994, is a community organizing center that addresses the unique issues facing LGBTSTGNC People of Color communities. With a home base in Fort Greene, Alp collaborates with LGBTSTGNC people of color organizations and communities, recognizing the importance of involving the communities they serve in decision-making and organizational structures. They also support and promote the work of existing and emerging LGBTST people of color organizations and cultural workers.
Alp prioritizes anti-sexist practice and strives to actively involve women in leadership positions, recognizing the historic marginalization of women's perspectives and leadership in broader LGBTSTGNC organizations and communities. They also emphasize multi-racial coalition-building and advocate for equality and liberation
