## Description

The Al Purdy A-frame Association preserves the historic lakeside home of Canadian poet Al Purdy in Ameliasburgh, Prince Edward County, while carrying forward its role as a place for poetry and creative exchange. Built by Al, his wife Eurithe, and her father from used and readily available materials, the A-frame became central to Purdy’s life and writing. Its setting by Roblin Lake inspired poems rooted in the people and landscape of the region, and the house welcomed generations of poets, writers, students, publishers, and readers.

Today, the Association maintains and upgrades the property, preserving its history while ensuring it can support future visitors and writers. Its programs include the Al and Eurithe Purdy Residency and the Steven Heighton Fellowship, alongside a writers-in-residence community and alumni anthology. The organization also shares information about Purdy’s life and work, the A-frame’s history, annual reports, tributes, and the Purdy Prize, including submission requirements and past winners.
