## Description

The Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC) is a European Digital Infrastructure Consortium established to support the development of language technologies and help preserve Europe’s linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. Created under the EU’s Digital Decade Policy Programme 2030, the EDIC model enables member states to pool resources and work together on shared digital infrastructure. ALT-EDIC brings European partners together to advance competitive language technologies that can speak, write and understand different languages while reflecting cultural specificities.

Its work includes collaborative projects such as ALT-EDIC4EU, LLM-BRIDGE, LLMs4EU and OpenEuroLLM. The consortium also supports activities connected with large language models, language data and evaluation, and wider innovation in Europe’s language technology sector. Through events, news and initiatives including a summer school on methods to advance language technologies, ALT-EDIC shares expertise and encourages collaboration among researchers, public institutions and industry. Based in Villers-Cotterêts, France, the organisation also recruits specialists in areas including software development, linguistic data management, evaluation and project coordination.
