## Description

Altazimuth Arts is the creative practice of Sara J. Schechner, an award-winning quilter, curator, and historian of science. Bringing together art, history, and science, Schechner creates art quilts and sundials designed to tell stories, express feelings, and explore ideas. Her quilt work engages with themes including memory, history, women’s rights, metamorphosis, and astronomy. The quilts have been selected for national and international exhibitions, including the International Quilt Festival in Houston, and have appeared in museums, galleries, and publications.

Schechner’s sundial work draws on her curatorial experience with major collections of portable sundials at the Adler Planetarium and Harvard University, as well as collections overseas. She has authored books and curated exhibitions, and has created interactive and monumental sundials for the Smithsonian Institution, outdoor learning centers, and summer solstice festivals. Her contributions to sundial scholarship and practice have been recognized by the North American Sundial Society and the British Sundial Society. Altazimuth Arts also shares related books and teaching opportunities, connecting visitors with the stories and ideas behind Schechner’s work.
