About
Description
Founded in 1996, Amazon Watch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the Amazon rainforest and advancing the rights of Indigenous peoples in the region. As the world's largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest, the Amazon plays a vital role in regulating the global climate and sustaining Earth's delicate balance. With one-third of the Earth's plant and animal species and one-fifth of its fresh water, the forest is truly a global treasure.
Amazon Watch works in collaboration with Indigenous and environmental organizations to advocate for human rights, hold corporations accountable, and preserve the Amazon's ecological systems. Their mission is to ensure that the collective rights of Indigenous peoples and the rights of nature are respected, and that healthy forests and biodiversity are fully protected. They strive for a world where governments, corporations, and civil society work together to safeguard the Amazon and its Indigenous inhabitants.
Through their campaigns, Amazon Watch aims to raise awareness about the extreme risk faced by the forest and the Indigenous communities that depend on it. The organization recognizes that Indigenous self-determination is key to successful conservation efforts and believes that Indigenous knowledge and practices contribute significantly to the sustainable stewardship of the Earth. In this spirit of partnership and respect, Amazon Watch supports Indigenous, forest, and traditional peoples in their efforts to protect their lands, cultures, and aspirations.
By supporting Amazon Watch, individuals can contribute to the ongoing efforts to defend the Amazon rainforest and the rights of its Indigenous peoples. Together, we can work towards a future where the Amazon and its invaluable resources are preserved for generations to come
