## Description

The Australian Medical Council (AMC) is an independent national standards body for medical education and training. Its purpose is to ensure that education, training and assessment standards promote and protect the health of the Australian community. Working across Australia and New Zealand, the AMC partners with health, education and government organisations on standards and workforce development.

The council accredits medical schools and programs, specialist medical colleges, prevocational training authorities and other providers. It sets standards, publishes accreditation guidance and reports, and supports assessment across different stages of medical education. For international medical graduates seeking to practise in Australia, the AMC explains eligibility and pathways, offers primary source verification and account and portfolio resources, and provides multiple-choice and clinical examinations. It also shares information on workplace-based assessment and AMC certificates.

Resources include exam preparation materials, a free MCQ preparation app developed with eMedici, publications on Australian healthcare and professional practice, and guidance on ethics, law, digital capability and cultural safety.
