## Description

The American Ethnological Society (AES) is a community of scholars dedicated to advancing cultural anthropology through rich ethnographic research and innovative, relevant theory. Founded in 1842, AES brings together researchers, writers, artists, and teachers at different career stages and works to broaden the reach and impact of ethnography. It is a section of the American Anthropological Association.

AES supports the creation and sharing of scholarship through publications, conferences, awards, funding, mentorship, and professional development. Its flagship journal, American Ethnologist, engages anthropological theory through ethnography and welcomes submissions from scholars worldwide. AES also publishes digital content, including short essays, topical collections, and interviews that address emerging debates.

The society organizes a spring conference and panels for the annual AAA meetings. Its awards recognize scholarship by junior and senior colleagues, while graduate student research awards provide funding and support. AES offers membership opportunities through the American Anthropological Association and shares news and resources with its community.
