## Description

The Panama Amphibian Rescue and Conservation Project (PARC) is dedicated to saving Panama's unique amphibian species, such as frogs and salamanders, which are threatened by extinction. Established in 2009 through a collaborative effort by esteemed organizations including Zoo New England, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Smithsonian National Zoo, PARC focuses on building sustainable assurance colonies and developing innovative methodologies to combat the chytrid fungus, a deadly pathogen affecting amphibian populations.

Operating from a specialized facility in Gamboa, PARC covers 5,000 square feet dedicated to conservation, along with an insect rearing facility to support amphibian diets. The project prioritizes the rescue of critically endangered species, while also engaging in reintroduction trials and extensive fieldwork. Additionally, PARC emphasizes education and training, fostering local expertise in animal and veterinary care. Through its mission, PARC aims to restore wild amphibian populations and enhance public awareness and appreciation for these remarkable creatures in Panama's ecosystems.
