## Description

The American Philosophical Society (APS) is the oldest learned society in the United States, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin with the intention of promoting useful knowledge. Today, in the 21st century, the APS carries on this mission through three key approaches. Firstly, they honor and engage renowned scholars, scientists, and professionals, welcoming them as elected members and fostering interdisciplinary fellowship during their semi-annual Meetings. Secondly, the APS supports research and discovery by providing grants, fellowships, lectures, publications, and prizes. Their dedication to public education is evident through exhibitions and various resources. Additionally, the APS serves scholars with a research library that houses manuscripts and collections of outstanding historic value, recognized globally. Guided by their founder's spirit of inquiry, the APS provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and firmly believes that intellectual inquiry and critical thought are in the best interest of the public.
