## Description

AMRID Laboratory, the Antimicrobial Resistance and Infectious Diseases Laboratory, is a research group based at Murdoch University’s Harry Butler Institute in Western Australia. Its work focuses on antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases, with an emphasis on translational research designed to deliver practical outcomes. The multidisciplinary team includes experts in epidemiology, veterinary microbiology and virology, alongside research and technical staff and postgraduate students.

AMRID conducts research, surveillance and analysis to support understanding of antimicrobial resistance across human, animal and environmental health—the One Health perspective. Its services and capabilities include detecting and quantifying resistant organisms, assessing phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibilities, whole-genome sequencing, phylogenetic analysis and tracing genetic relationships. The laboratory’s Robotic Antimicrobial Susceptibility Platform (RASP) supports high-throughput surveillance, with research reporting improved throughput, cost and data resolution compared with manual testing while following recognized standards.

The laboratory publishes research on resistant bacteria in food-producing animals, companion animals and other settings, and produces industry reports on surveillance in sectors such as eggs, cattle and meat chickens.
