By utilizing advanced DNA testing, including autosomal DNA, Y-DNA, and mtDNA tests, Coates helps individuals discover the intricate web of their familial connections. The project specifically focuses on surnames like Coat, Coate, Coates, Coats, Cote, Cotes, and Coutts, and is designed to connect distant cousins and aid in unraveling the past. For men, Y-DNA testing, particularly the Big Y test, provides insights into ancestral lines going back hundreds of thousands of years. This test is complemented by the Family Finder test, which works for both genders and traces ancestral lines up to eight generations. FamilyTreeDNA, the original pioneer of genetic genealogy, ensures privacy and user control in data sharing, enhancing collaboration among participants. With guidance from experienced administrators like Linda Coate, the project empowers individuals to unlock the mysteries of their ancestry confidently.
