Anton Thomas is a talented artist-cartographer based in Melbourne, Australia. With a passion for maps and a love for the outdoors, Anton hand-draws detailed illustrated maps using colored pencil and pen. His latest masterpiece, the North America: Portrait of a Continent map, showcases his exceptional skill and dedication to his craft. Anton's journey as a mapmaker started in his childhood in New Zealand, where he would spend hours obsessively drawing coastlines and creating pictorial maps. However, it wasn't until he left New Zealand in 2011, at the age of 21, that his passion for mapmaking began to take center stage. Inspired by his travels in North America, Anton dreamed of creating a huge pictorial map that captured the scale and diversity of the continent. Starting with a humble sketch on a refrigerator in Montreal, he continued to refine his technique and expand his artistic vision. The North America map, which took several years to complete, showcases Anton's growth as an artist and his commitment to capturing the beauty and complexity of real places. With meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for the landscapes he depicts, Anton's maps are more than just artworks—they are a celebration of the places we call home. In addition to the North America map, Anton has also created the South Asia & Australasia map, which showcases his evolving skills and experience. While he no longer sells prints of the South Asia & Australasia map, it remains a testament to his dedication and artistic talent. Anton's work as a mapmaker is a true labor of love. Each map is a unique blend of artistry and cartography, reflecting his deep connection to the places he portrays. Whether hanging on a wall or used as a reference, Anton's maps invite viewers into a world of exploration and discovery.
