## Description

The African Postharvest Losses Information System (APHLIS) is a crucial international initiative dedicated to collecting, analyzing, and sharing data on postharvest losses of cereal grains in sub-Saharan Africa. Currently evolving into APHLIS+, this phase broadens its coverage to include legumes, roots, and tubers. The system offers valuable insights into the economic and nutritional impacts of postharvest loss, enhancing tools for data access and expanding its network of experts across the region. Established in 2009, APHLIS has been supported by organizations such as the European Commission and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Its mission is vital, as it addresses the staggering potential loss of up to 50 percent of crop production before it reaches consumers due to inadequate storage and handling. APHLIS equips policymakers, donors, and agricultural specialists with evidence-based data to tackle these losses, ultimately aiming to improve food security and livelihoods in affected communities through targeted investments and policies.
