Founded almost 30 years ago by a group of students from two prominent universities in the region, AQUASIS has since evolved into one of the most respected conservation institutions in Brazil. This prestigious organization is dedicated to several conservation action groups, including the Marine Mammals Program, the Birds Program, and the Environmental Education Nucleus.

AQUASIS has achieved significant milestones, such as establishing the first quarantine structure for West Indian Manatee calves and founding the Araripe Oasis Reserve RPPN. Their efforts have been recognized by numerous awards, including the "Mother Nature" Award and the National Biodiversity Award from the Ministry of the Environment of Brazil.
