## Description

Svenska Aralsjösällskapet (SASS) is a Swedish association dedicated to raising awareness of the Aral Sea’s environmental crisis and supporting sustainable development in Central Asia. The Aral Sea’s decline, driven by excessive human use of water resources, has left much of the former seabed dry and affected the surrounding region through environmental damage, pollution, poverty, illness and unemployment. SASS shares information about these challenges with audiences in Sweden and internationally, helping make the situation and its wider consequences better understood.

The association publishes news, articles, factual information and newsletters about the Aral Sea region, and organises events and discussions on water, sustainable development and Central Asian politics. Its work also includes educational initiatives and projects, including the Sustainable Development Summer School, delivered in cooperation with partner institutions and universities. The programme has provided selected master’s students from Uzbekistan with opportunities to study sustainable development. SASS also lists initiatives and activities under SDSS, BUP, SD Course and Erasmus education.
