## Description

AAP Archive Artist Publications, founded by Hubert Kretschmer in Munich in 1980, is a prominent independent archive dedicated to documenting and preserving artist publications. The archive houses a diverse collection of approximately 107,000 items, which includes magazines, artist books, zines, posters, and multimedia works spanning five decades. Unlike traditional bibliophile collections, AAP focuses on publications created with minimal resources, often categorized as 'gray literature', which are typically overlooked by public libraries despite their significant historical value.

The archive supports artistic production by providing visibility to works that might otherwise remain inaccessible. It showcases the evolution of various art movements, from Fluxus and mail art to contemporary print and media practices. Visitors can explore the archive by appointment, with provisions for individual and small group tours. AAP also collaborates with exhibitions and events, allowing their unique collection to reach a broader audience. Located conveniently within Munich's art district, the AAP Archive stands as a vital resource for artists, scholars, and art enthusiasts alike.
