Arc Institute

Arc Institute is an independent nonprofit research organization based in Palo Alto, California. With a mission to accelerate scientific progress and understand the root causes of complex diseases, Arc focuses on studying fundamental biological mechanisms, developing new technologies, and innovating therapeutic concepts. Operating in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, San Francisco, Arc combines full, hard money support for investigators with close partnerships with top graduate programs.

The institute also invests in technology development, particularly in genome engineering and software engineering. Under the leadership of founders Silvana Konermann, Patrick Hsu, and Patrick Collison, Arc aims to narrow the gap between discoveries and their impact on patients. Thanks to the generous support of founding donors, including Vitalik Buterin and the Collison family, Arc has over $650 million in funding to sustain scientists and their research for renewable eight-year terms.

Through its partnerships with universities and its own core investigators and affiliated faculty, Arc creates collaborative opportunities for research and training in the field of biomedical innovation. As it grows, Arc plans to hire 10-15 core investigators and establish technology centers to accommodate approximately 150-350 scientific personnel
