About
Description
The Arc of King County is a brand that advocates for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), enabling them to live, work, learn, and play in their communities. With a vision of creating a world where people with I/DD thrive as valued and active community members, The Arc of King County promotes values such as choice, opportunity, self-determination, inclusion, diversity, equality, sustainability, and independence. Founded in 1936, this organization began as the Children's Benevolent League, driven by parents determined to improve their children's quality of life.
Over the years, they have fought against institutionalization and worked towards securing housing, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities for individuals with I/DD. Today, The Arc of King County continues its mission to dismantle exclusion and build inclusive communities, with the guidance of disabled individuals, their families, professionals, and supporters. With over 730 chapters nationwide and 10 in Washington, The Arc of King County offers a range of services, including community inclusion, workshops, healthy relationships, housing stability, information and family support, and Wings for Autismยฎ.
They also provide advocacy, resources, and support for marginalized groups experiencing poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and abuse. By empowering individuals and their families, The Arc of King County strives to improve the lives of people with I/DD
