The Arctic Council is a prominent intergovernmental forum dedicated to fostering cooperation in the Arctic region. Comprising eight Arctic States, including Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States, the Council works towards promoting coordination and interaction among its members. With the support of 38 Observers, who provide their expertise, the Council is able to address a wide range of topics. These include Arctic contaminants, flora and fauna conservation, sustainable development, emergency prevention and response, as well as the protection of the Arctic marine environment. Through its Working and Expert Groups, the Council conducts projects, assessments, and monitoring efforts focused on issues like climate change, biodiversity, and ocean health.
Their strong knowledge base allows them to provide informed recommendations for decision-making. By promoting cooperation and knowledge sharing, the Arctic Council plays a crucial role in addressing the unique challenges facing the Arctic region today
