## Description

NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West) was a National Institute for Health and Care Research initiative that conducted applied health research from 2014 to 2026. Working with health and care partners, patients, and members of the public, it focused on practical questions affecting health and social care in the West of England and beyond. Its research and implementation work covered mental health, public health and prevention, healthier childhoods, and integrated and optimal care.

ARC West also supported patient and public involvement through collaboration with People in Health West of England. Its training and capacity-building activities helped health and care, public health, commissioning, and voluntary-sector workers develop skills in understanding, using, and producing evidence. The organisation’s projects addressed topics including school discipline and pupil wellbeing, personalised care for people with Parkinson’s disease, mental health app messaging, and guidance for parents discussing weight with children. ARC West’s funding ended on 31 March 2026, and its website is now an archive that is no longer updated.
