## Description

The Gaiola Underwater Park Marine Protected Area is a protected coastal site in the Gulf of Naples, extending across 41.6 hectares between Marechiaro and Trentaremi Bay. Established by an interministerial decree in 2002, it is managed by the Gaiola Interdisciplinary Studies Centre, a nonprofit organization, and forms part of the Natura 2000 conservation network. The park brings together rich marine biodiversity, distinctive volcanic geology, and significant archaeological remains in a striking Mediterranean landscape.

Along its shoreline and beneath the sea, visitors can encounter traces of Roman coastal villas, quarries, landing places, nymphaea, and fishponds, including remains associated with the ancient Pausilypon estate. Its waters support diverse marine life, including octopuses, seabream, wrasses, moray eels, and gorgonians.

The park serves as a center for research, training, scientific outreach, and environmental education, with the aim of protecting and showcasing the natural and cultural heritage of the Gulf of Naples. Its activities and services include guided visits, educational programs, trekking and snorkeling experiences, and visitor information through its center and online resources.
