## Description

Arjan Sterken is a religious studies scholar whose work explores mythology, traditional stories, and folklore across cultures. His research spans Asia, particularly India, China, and Japan; the Mediterranean world, including Greek, Roman, and Coptic traditions; Ojibwe culture; and Germanic regions, especially Lower Saxony. He studies both ancient narratives, such as accounts of creation and conflicts among gods, and newer folklore shaped by contemporary fears about the unknown future.

Sterken’s approach places stories in their cultural and historical contexts, uses analysis to develop broader theoretical insights, and aims to make scholarly knowledge accessible to wider audiences. His website presents his academic and public work, including publications, presentations, reviews, lectures, articles, blog posts, podcasts, and media appearances. He also offers expertise for scientific and cultural projects, and undertakes translation and creative writing. Organisations and individuals can contact him to discuss project ideas, arrange a lecture, or ask questions. The site also provides information about his curriculum vitae, education, teaching, editorial and board work, fundraising, awards, and language skills.
