## Description

Armand Petersen’s official website, presented by AAPEA, celebrates the life and work of the Swiss-born animal sculptor (1891–1969). Born in Basel, Petersen studied goldsmithing and chiselling at the School of Industrial Arts in Geneva before moving to Paris in 1914. He became known for sculptures with simplified forms, finely finished surfaces and a distinctive sense of alertness and vulnerability in the animals he portrayed. His work developed within the flourishing animal-art movement of the 1920s, alongside artists including Pompon, Sandoz, Bigot and Artus, while retaining an independent style.
